Photoshop Basics

Welcome to Artistry for Photoshop. The idea behind this series of web books is to help you move beyond simply designing in Photoshop to understanding what things are, why they exist, and what you should expect to do with them. You should always know, before you ever touch a tool, move a slider, or click a button, what you should expect to happen as a result of your actions.

This volume of the series will be devoted to Getting Started in Photoshop. We’ll concentrate on getting comfortable with the program. If you’re already using Photoshop, you may find some of this information a little basic for you, but look around. You may learn a few things about Photoshop that you never knew, or find a nugget or two of knowledge that could streamline your workflow.
